Old photographic processes declared protected cultural heritage in Croatia

Today, July 16, 2025, joyful news arrived – the art of creating photographs using traditional photographic processes has officially been recognized as a protected cultural heritage in Croatia.

With this move, the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia has made a rare and valuable breakthrough in Europe regarding the protection and promotion of photographic techniques and cultural heritage. In fact, besides Croatia, only the Federal Republic of Germany has enacted a similar law.

This decision paves the way for a brighter future in the preservation, promotion, and transmission of knowledge about traditional analog photographic techniques. It is now up to us to justify this recognition – to present our skills and knowledge to the wider public and to dedicate special attention to preserving and passing on this valuable heritage to future generations.
